Which Material…Steel, Stainless Steel or Titanium?
Steel bolts offer a low priced alternative to our stainless steel and titanium range. Our steel bolts have a minimum 10.9 High tensile strength. They are available in an array of colours (Chrome, Gold, Black, Neo Chrome, Velvet Red and Electric Blue). All coloured bolts are electroplated to prevent corrosion against the environmental elements.
Our stainless steel bolts offer a lower priced alternative compared to our titanium bolts. If you drive your car on a daily basis or live in an environment where it is regularly icy, snowy and raining or even lazy when it comes to cleaning your split rim wheels, we highly recommend that you use our stainless steel bolts. These bolts offer complete corrosion resistance and are forged to an equivalent 10.9 high tensile strength category.
Our grade 5 titanium bolts offer several advantages compared to regular steel and stainless steel bolts. Not only do they offer absolute corrosion resistance, but on average there is a 40%+ weight saving. Grade 5 titanium also offers a 10.9 high tensile strength category. These are absolutely perfect when your aim is to build wheels which will save weight.
Split Rim Bolt Maintenance
We recommend that all plated bolts are cleaned and maintained with a good reputable non acidic wheel sealant to increase corrosion resistance. Our personal recommendation is carbon collective platinum wheel sealant. This sealant creates a rock hard active layer between the plating and potential contaminants as well as environmental elements. It also leaves a clear gloss finish which can last up to 2 years. How and when you coat them is dependent on how much you drive your car. We also recommend placing a layer of cling film or foil in between the socket and bolt head when rebuilding your wheels, to not damage the plating in any way shape or form.
Torque Settings
Below is a list of torque settings which is necessary when rebuilding your split rim wheels. We highly recommend that you use a professional split rim wheel rebuilder to rebuild your wheels. When you torque your bolts and nuts, we also recommend that the head of the bolt is maintained in one position while you torque through the nut end. However we understand that sometimes this will not be possible to do. We also recommend placing a layer of cling film or foil in between the socket and bolt head, to not damage the plating in any way shape or form.
